Raymond Delphis Lapensée (Ray)

Ray Lapensée, a beloved family man, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loved ones in Sarnia, Ontario. Born in Noranda, Quebec in 1943, Ray was survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Frances Lapensee (nee Kensley). Ray’s immediate family includes his daughter Colleen Lapensée, daughter-in-law Janet Lapensée, daughter Gigi Walent-Burke, and son-in-law Sean Burke. Throughout his life, Ray experienced the loss of several family members, including his parents Delphis (1989) and Edwina (2000), sisters Genevieve Gleason (1970) and Debra Lapensée (2023), children Mark Lapensée (2020) and Claire Lapensée (2013), son-in-law Frank Walent (2007), and grandson Zachariah Walent (1999). Ray is also survived by his brother Guy Lapensée and sister-in-law Mary Lapensée, as well as a wide circle of extended family and special friends who were an important part of his life.

Ray Lapensée was widely known for his dedication to his family and his warm, friendly personality. Throughout his career as a building inspector for the municipal offices of Sarnia, Lambton, and St. Clair Township, he earned the respect and admiration of many. Ray was passionate about various hobbies, including motorcycles, roller skating, golf, boating, and cards. It was in these shared interests that Ray and Fran, his wife, found joy and companionship. Additionally, he cherished the company of retirees from City Hall, with whom he enjoyed Thursday morning breakfasts. Ray had a remarkable ability to connect with others, always willing to lend a helping hand and engaging in conversations about various topics. Whether it was a friendly hello or a special carpentry project, Ray approached everything with enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed his path.

Despite his humorous nature, which was often accompanied by his contagious laughter and relentless “dad jokes,” Ray had a gentle and compassionate side. He found solace in the music he created while working in his shop. Taking time to build relationships with his neighbors and visitors, Ray appreciated the beauty of connecting with others. Now that Ray has transcended his earthly body, his absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him. However, his memory will forever be cherished, and the family finds comfort in the wealth of memories they have accumulated throughout the years. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kim and his team for their exceptional care and support. Cremation has already been conducted, and a Funeral Mass to honor Ray’s life will take place at St. Michael’s Parish in Brights Grove, Ontario, on August 24, 2023, at 11:00 am. The private internment will be scheduled at a later date. Condolences and remembrances can be shared in “Ray’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. Instead of floral arrangements, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice Sarnia-Lambton or St. Vincent de Paul Sarnia-Lambton, in honor of Ray Lapensée’s memory.
