Richard Bower

Richard “Rick” Dale Bower, aged 72, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, in Victoria, B.C. Born on July 20, 1951, in Calgary, Alberta, Rick enjoyed his childhood in Calgary’s Hillhurst area where he actively participated in sports. He later pursued an Engineering Program at the University of Calgary. Throughout his 72 years, Rick’s unwavering love for sports, people, and his family drove him to contribute to his community in various ways.

Professionally, Rick embarked on an engineering journey at Richland Engineering, but his true accomplishment came when he became a founding Partner and Chief Engineer at Bower Damberger Rolseth Engineering Ltd. This company successfully operated within the Oil and Gas industry for two decades. Rick’s dedication to innovation led him to his most recent role as a Principal and Owner at Allardyce Bower Consulting. In this position, he focused on maximizing efficiency and recoveries from existing Oil and Gas facilities while championing the Carbon Capture initiative to minimize environmental impact.

While Rick excelled in his professional endeavors, his true greatness lay in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Known for his supportive nature, he always strived to help others reach their potential and surpass it. Rick’s impact was witnessed through his time coaching youth in minor sports, mentoring young engineers, and providing unwavering love and guidance to his family and friends. His absence will surely be deeply felt.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife Leda, his children Sean (Amy), Jessica (Magda), Ezra (Pia), Zereau (Breanna), Vefele (David), and Caitlyn (Paul). Additionally, he leaves behind five grandchildren: Bodhi, Gideon, Ewan, Evan, and Ian. He will also be missed by his brother Len and sisters Judy and Deb, along with their families. Furthermore, his loyal dogs Chi-Banda and Kashika will feel his absence profoundly.

To truly honor the impact of Rick’s life in both Calgary and Victoria, two separate Celebrations of Life will be held. The first will take place at the Calgary Petroleum Club on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., and the second one will be held at the Sequoia Centre, McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial tributes be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Those who wish to offer condolences may do so at the official website of McCall Gardens.
