Richard Bower
Richard “Rick” Dale Bower, born on July 20, 1951, sadly passed away in Victoria B.C on August 28, 2023. Rick grew up in the Hillhurst area of Calgary, Alberta, where he played sports and developed a passion for athleticism. He later pursued an Engineering Program at the University of Calgary. Throughout his life, Rick dedicated himself to supporting his community, nurturing his friendships, and, above all, caring for his family for the past 72 years.
In his professional journey, Rick began his engineering career at Richland Engineering. Eventually, he became a founding Partner and Chief Engineer at Bower Damberger Rolseth Engineering Ltd, operating successfully in the Oil and Gas industry for over 20 years. Recently, he held the position of Principal and Owner at Allardyce Bower Consulting, where he focused on optimizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact in the Oil and Gas sector, particularly by spearheading the Carbon Capture initiative.
Despite his professional achievements, Rick’s true greatness shone through his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He constantly sought to inspire and support those around him, becoming a beloved coach for kids in minor sports, a mentor for young engineers, and a pillar of love and compassion for his family and friends.
Rick is survived by his loving wife Leda, his children Sean (Amy), Jessica (Magda), Ezra (Pia), Zereau (Breanna), Vefele (David), and Caitlyn (Paul). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Bodhi, Gideon, Ewan, Evan, and Ian. Rick will be dearly missed by his brother Len, his sisters Judy and Deb, along with their families. His presence will also be deeply missed by his loyal dogs Chi-Banda “stupid dog” and Kashika.
To honor Rick’s impact on both Calgary and Victoria, two Celebrations of Life will be held. The first will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Calgary Petroleum Club. The second service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Condolences may be offered to the family at http://www.mccallgardens.com.
