Richard CARPANI
Richard Edward Carpani, affectionately known as Dick, peacefully passed away at the age of 87 on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Bluewater Health – CEE in Petrolia. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna (nee Bell), and lovingly remembered by his children Wayne (Linda) and Susan (Brian). Dick was a cherished grandfather to Warren (Kate) and Ronnie (Emily). Preceding him in death were his parents, Gordon and Frances, as well as his sister Patricia (Jim).
After graduating in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1958, Dick relocated to Sarnia and commenced his career as a Process Engineer at Polymer Corporation. He delved into the world of computers for financial analysis, with his initial foray taking place six decades ago. Remarkably, Dick was part of the original six-person team responsible for conducting the feasibility study that led to the construction of the Petrosar Plant. He went on to have a successful career, retiring from Nova Chemicals.
Notably, health and wellness occupied a special place in Dick’s heart, manifested through his love for running and participating in local road races. Furthermore, he passionately served as a Master Instructor at the Bluewater Taekwondo Club, also officiating national-level competitions. At the age of 75, Dick accomplished a monumental feat by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a source of immense pride. Demonstrating his caring nature, he also volunteered with the Golden K Kiwanis and the Meals on Wheels organization.
An avid follower of politics, Dick dedicated his time to public service, serving as a trustee on the Lambton County Board of Education and as a City Councilor in Sarnia. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Dick may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, located at 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Messages of condolences can be shared at [Smith Funeral Home’s website](http://www.smithfuneralhome.ca).
