Robert Thorburn Bickell, known to his loved ones as Bob, passed away on November 4, 2023, at the age of 98. He is survived by his four daughters: Colleen (Peter), Louise, Patricia (Mike), and Sandy (Barry); as well as his sister Beverly (Bill) and brother Jim (Blanca). He was predeceased by his wife Alice in 2016, his brother Ron, and his sister Dorothy. Additionally, Bob is survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob’s upbringing on the Alberta prairies during the Great Depression shaped him into a resilient and hardworking individual. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he found employment at AGT (now Telus) and eventually married his wife Alice. Following his retirement from AGT in 1980, Bob enjoyed pursuing hobbies such as fishing, canoeing, and woodworking. He was also known for growing impressive BIG BEEF tomatoes in Calgary and was a proud HAM operator with the call sign VE6RT. For the last 5 years of his life, Bob lived at Riverbend Revera Retirement Home, where he cherished the exceptional care and friendships he found there.

Cremation has already taken place at Hainstock’s Funeral and Crematorium in Edmonton. A service to honor Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 11 a.m. MST at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, located at 9810 34 Ave NW in Edmonton. Bob will be remembered for his resilience, hobbies, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
