Robert (Bob) James Maynard

Robert Maynard, a beloved husband and father, passed away on July 8, 2023, in Calgary, AB at the age of 82. He was born on November 17, 1940, in Chesterfield, England, during the midst of World War II. As a child, he witnessed the effects of war as his father served as a pilot for the Royal Air Force. After the war, Robert and his family moved to Canada, settling in Barrhead, AB, before eventually making Edmonton their home. Despite initially struggling academically, Robert graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in electrical engineering in 1962.

In 1964, Robert met Delores in Estevan, SK, and they were married in Medicine Hat later that year. They went on to have three children and established their permanent residence in Calgary in 1978. Robert had a passion for bowling, curling, and country music. He loved spending time with his family, taking them on camping trips and road adventures. His grandchildren brought him great joy, and he cherished reading to them in his favorite chair.

Robert flourished in his career as an expert in corrosion prevention. In 1987, he co-founded Aurora Corrosion Control, specializing in pipeline corrosion. He was highly respected in his field, maintaining his engineering designation until the age of 81. Despite facing various health challenges, Robert’s inquisitive mind remained intact until his passing. He passed away in the Rockyview General Hospital on July 8, 2023. Robert is survived by his wife Delores, daughters Rose and Nadine, five grandchildren, and his sisters Elizabeth and Nina.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway on August 21, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Robert James Maynard. As a tribute to his memory, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
