Robert George Baldwin

Robert George Baldwin, a resident of Vancouver, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2023, at the age of 96. He was born on January 13, 1927, in Vernon, BC, and later moved to Vancouver with his family. In Vancouver, Robert attended Prince of Wales High School where he crossed paths with his beloved wife, Barbara Chew. Following his completion of a Masters in English at UBC, Robert married Barbara in 1948 and relocated to Toronto. There, he pursued a Doctorate of English at the University of Toronto. Upon obtaining his doctorate, he was offered a professorship at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where he dedicated 32 years of his professional life. In 1984, he concluded his career as Vice President Academic. Upon retirement, Robert returned to Vancouver, where he devoted himself to exploring his family lineage for the following four decades. He is survived by his son Chris (Elaine), his daughter Jan (Allan), and a loving flock of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tragically, Robert was predeceased by his son John in 1972 and his wife Barbara in 2020. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the attentive staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital Langara for their exceptional care. A private family service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in the upcoming Fall.
