Robert George Baldwin, 96, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2023, in Vancouver. Born on January 13, 1927, in Vernon, BC, he relocated to Vancouver with his family to attend Prince of Wales High School, where destiny brought him together with his beloved wife, Barbara Chew. After earning his Masters in English from UBC, George married Barbara in 1948 and they embarked on a new adventure in Toronto. There, he pursued his doctorate in English at the University of Toronto. Following his academic accomplishments, George accepted a professorship at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He dedicated 32 years to his career, reaching the prestigious position of Vice President Academic in 1984. George later retired to Vancouver and passionately delved into genealogy, exploring his family lineage for the subsequent four decades. Sadly, George was preceded in death by his son John in 1972 and his wife Barbara in 2020. However, he is survived by his children Chris (Elaine) and Jan (Allan), and his grandchildren Mike (Sue), Tina (Adam), Paddy (Sarah), Dave (Erin), Pete (Maggie), and Christie (Stirling). Additionally, George leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren residing in Vancouver and Edmonton, as well as numerous other family members. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital Langara for their outstanding care. A private family service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in the coming autumn.
