Robert McKENZIE
Robert (Bob) McKenzie, aged 90, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He grieved the loss of his beloved wife, Beverly, and cherished the love of his children (Barney, Adrien, Jennifer, Megan, and Paul) and grandchildren (Emilie, Martin, Max, Sam, Angus, Cooper, and Gabriel).
Bob, born in Vancouver to Scottish immigrant parents Robert and Jean, grew up in Kitsilano and Premier, BC. His father worked at a prominent gold mine in British Columbia. Bob often shared anecdotes of his early days in Vancouver, such as hiking to the top of Hollyburn Mountain with skis on his shoulder and accompanied by friends, occasionally skiing all the way down to Marine Drive when there was plenty of snow. In the 1960s, he pursued a career as a stockbroker and later became a successful entrepreneur in the 1970s, providing a comfortable life for his family.
Family, travel, golf, and friends were among Bob’s greatest passions. He was sociable and always up for an adventure. These included relocating his young family to Guadalajara, Mexico for a year, embarking on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage with his close friend Wayne, fishing in remote areas of Mongolia with his son Paul, taking trans-Canada road trips with Beverly and their faithful canine companion Wallace, and going on numerous golfing vacations to Ireland and Scotland.
As Bob grew older, he became even kinder, wiser, and more generous. He had a special bond with all his children and was adored by his grandchildren. In his final year, he frequently reminisced about his 90th birthday celebration and how deeply touched he was by the presence of all who attended.
Bob was predeceased by his sister Dianna and will be dearly missed by her three sons, Brian, Lewis, and Ronald, as well as by many others whose lives he influenced. As per his wishes, no service will be held. Those who wish to honor his memory may make a donation in his name to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
