Rosa ZEGARRA

Rosa Victoria ZEGARRA, also known as Mama Chachi to her loved ones, peacefully passed away in her Kingston, Ontario home on September 4, 2023. At the age of 97, she outlived the Queen, a fact that she took great pride in. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Flavio, whom she dearly missed. Survived by her five children, Fanny, Isabel Mellognio (Pablo), Cesar (Marie), Gerry (Beverly), and Luis, as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and several close nieces and nephews.

Born in Lima, Peru, Victoria spent her life practicing midwifery and delivering thousands of babies. In 1970, she relocated to Canada, where she embraced a new language and culture. Victoria’s dedication to providing care motivated her to pursue nursing studies, culminating in her graduation from St. Lawrence College. For many years, she dedicated herself to working on Johnson 6 ward at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, alongside her remarkable colleagues.

Known for her loving and compassionate nature, Victoria welcomed everyone into her home and shared her wisdom and kindness unconditionally. She fervently believed that love was the most crucial aspect of life, emphasizing the importance of expressing care towards others. As our ever-loving matriarch, Victoria exemplified this philosophy with her family, patients, and the many individuals she welcomed into her extended family over the years. Remarkably sharp and quick-witted until the end, she lightened the atmosphere with jokes and reminiscences during her final days, leaving lasting memories for her family and visitors.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to their Talledo cousins for their unwavering love and support during this difficult time. The visits from Monseigneur Lynch provided the family with peace, comfort, and a sense of serenity. A special mention and gratitude go to Lynn Verma and Noemi Bundoc for their exceptional personal attention and care. Furthermore, Dr. Nathalie Kondor, Jacqui Young, McKayla Dafoe, Reed Finley, Chery King, Carley Bustard, Tammi Jones, Susan McCormick, Chelsea Kimber, Laura Chiasson, and Jennifer Hart, the family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care rendered.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Township Chapel of the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes, located at 435 Davis Drive (Centennial Dr. and Taylor Kidd Blvd.) on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Rite of Committal with prayers at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
