Rudy Garner, a resident of Tillsonburg and formerly of Straffordville, passed away at the age of 73 years. He was the beloved husband of Susan Garner for 47 years and the proud father of Michael Garner and his wife Jessica Garner. Rudy was also a loving Papa to Elizabeth Smith and Stephen Garner. He is survived by his brother Dan Garner and his son Robert, his sister-in-law Karen Stanat, brother-in-law Alex Stanat, and their children AJ and Lexi. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Theresa Garner, as well as his in-laws Art and Violet Stanat.
Rudy and his wife began their journey by growing tobacco for their parents and later established their own tobacco and cash crops on the Garner family farm outside of Straffordville. After 39 years, they moved to town. In addition to his farming work, Rudy dedicated 26 years to part-time employment with Agricorp as a Yield Evaluator and Crop Adjuster. He also served 39 years as an Auxiliary with the Ontario Provincial Police, volunteering his time.
Rudy cherished his family, considering them his pride and joy, with farming following as a close second. His friendly and down-to-earth nature made it easy for him to make friends and engage with neighbors, particularly when reminiscing about the “old days” of farming. Dr. Breadner and the team at LRCP, the nurses and doctors at STEGH Chemo Suite and STEGH Emerg, Dr. Foerster, Dr. Sondhi, the Oxford Palliative Care team, the staff and volunteers at VON Sakura House, and Dr. Jamie Cluett and the staff at Tillsonburg Family physicians provided exceptional care to Rudy during his illness.
