Shirley DICKIE

Shirley Marilyn Dickie (nee. Gorvett), beloved wife of Ron Dickie (2022) for 66 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her children, Dale (Alice), Phil (Kristina), Susan (John), Chris (Tracey), and Ronda (Gord), and a cherished grandmother to 13 and great-grandmother to 18 (almost 19). Shirley’s family will forever hold dear the memories of their Sunday family dinners and the special tins of Christmas cookies she lovingly prepared for each family. She also had a deep love for the outdoors.

Shirley was born on her grandparent’s farm in Yarmouth township to Alfred Gorvett (1978) and Edith Gorvett (nee. Shelley) (1996). She was a loving little sister to Audre (Wray) Smith. At the age of 2, the family relocated to St. Thomas, where Shirley attended Wellington Street School, S.T.C.I & A.V.S.S. She worked as a secretary at Goodwin Furniture Store until she decided to focus on raising her family. Once her children were all in school, Shirley worked at Shaw’s Ice Cream in their dairy bar for 18 years.

After Ron’s retirement, they enjoyed spending summers together on Manitoulin Island, creating countless cherished memories with their family. Shirley was an active member of Union United Church and a lifelong member of the U.C.W. Her ashes will be interred at Union United Church Cemetery at a later date. The Shawn Jackson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements, and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society if desired. Personal condolences can be shared online at http://www.sjfh.ca.
