Sister Darlene Joyce, FCJ Madore

Sister Darlene Madore, a devoted member of the Faithful Companion of Jesus, passed away peacefully at Providence Care Centre on October 11, 2023, at the age of 87. Born and raised in Edmonton, Sister Darlene joined the FCJ Sisters in Calgary on February 2, 1954, and took her first vows on August 15, 1956. She pursued her studies in Toronto and England to equip herself for her role as a high school teacher in Calgary and Providence, R.I., as well as teaching Scripture courses to various groups. Throughout her life, Sister Darlene’s dedication and commitment to her faith were evident, guiding her actions and impacting the lives of those around her. She will be dearly missed by her sister Mitzi Kohler, her nephew, nieces, and the FCJ Sisters in Calgary. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Providence Care Centre, where Sister Darlene has resided since 2021.

Prayers and Tributes will be held in honor of Sister Darlene at Sacred Heart Convent (219 – 19 Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Following this, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the same location on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The graveside service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery thereafter. While attendance is limited, those unable to attend in person can join the service for Sister Darlene, which will be streamed live on the day of the service through the website http://www.MHFH.com. The recording of the service will also be made available for those unable to view it live. Family, friends, and acquaintances are encouraged to share condolences, memories, and photos with Sister Darlene’s family on the same website.

In remembrance of Sister Darlene Madore, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, symbolizing her lasting legacy and the impact she made during her lifetime. Sister Darlene will always be fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched with her kindness, teachings, and unwavering faith.
