Stella Dawdy, formerly known as Stella Balog, was born in Ukraine in 1924 and passed away in 2023. She migrated to Canada at the age of five along with her mother, Mary, and her two siblings, to reunite with her father, Peter. Stella was a cherished mother to Sandra, Gloria, Gail (Ron), and Nancy. She was also a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great-grandmother to fifteen. Sadly, Stella was predeceased by her husband Walter Dawdy in 2012 and eight of her siblings. Her sister Elsie Corbett survives her.
Stella had a strong affiliation with the Cainsville United Church, which later merged to form Harmony United Church. She actively participated in the United Church Women (UCW) at both congregations for many years. Stella found joy in her family, her faith community, gardening, playing euchre, and indulging in traditional culinary practices such as pickling, sauerkraut-making, and crafting homemade preserves. Above all, she was a loving and nurturing mother, esteemed by all those whose lives she touched throughout the years.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the personal support workers (PSWs), exceptional nurses, and community outreach programs who provided compassionate care for Stella. They would also like to acknowledge the Stedman Community Hospice for their gentle care during her time of need. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the McCleister Funeral Home, located at 495 Park Road North, Brantford, on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at the chapel on the same day at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has already taken place, and a private family burial is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Harmony United Church, Stedman Community Hospice, or the Brant County SPCA would be greatly appreciated. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at mccleisterfuneralhome.ca or by contacting McCleister at (519) 758-1553.
