Steve ANDRUSIAK
Steve Orest Andrusiak, born on August 2, 1950, in Montreal, passed away on September 5, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Larysa, and their three children: Natalie Lisa, Michael Zachary (along with wife Danielle and an upcoming grandchild), and Paul Stefan (with wife Meghan and grandson Jacob William). Steve’s parents, Maria Leskiw and Mykola Andrusiak, preceded him in death. He is also fondly remembered by his cousins Andrea Leskiw and Mary Pawlus.
Steve Andrusiak had an impressive educational background, holding a BA from Concordia, pursuing graduate studies at Carleton University, and earning a Masters in Education from the University of Toronto. His career in journalism included roles at CTV National News, CFRN Radio, CBC Television and Radio, and TV 9. He was a passionate advocate for media ethics and represented Canada on an international level. In the field of education, he served as Dean and Chair at Fanshawe College. Even after retirement, he continued to contribute to journalism with “Story Village” and “Nasha Kasha.”
Apart from his professional achievements, Steve was known for his strong devotion to his Ukrainian heritage. He co-founded the band Rushnychok, which played a significant role in modernizing Ukrainian music. He was a loyal fan of the Habs and an active member of Knights of Columbus and Scouts Canada. Despite facing cancer in 2023, Steve approached his battle with grace and positivity. His legacy is characterized by his remarkable work, unwavering passion, and cherished relationships.
Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Steve will be laid to rest at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In memory of Stefan, donations may be made to Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church (Building Fund), St. Joseph’s Hospice, or the Music Program at Fanshawe College.
