Sylvie Barbeau

Sylvie Claire Marie Barbeau, a deeply respected educator and advocate for marginalized communities, passed away on July 22, 2023, at the age of 60 after bravely battling cancer. Surrounded by loved ones, Sylvie’s legacy will be carried on through the compassionate service to others that she instilled in those around her. She is survived by her mother, Claire, and her cherished children, Gabriel Steven Chmielewski and BĂ©atrice Marguerite Rozalie Chmielewski. Sylvie will be fondly remembered by her siblings, Marie-Lyne Caza, Pete Barbeau, and Chuck Barbeau, as well as Steve Chmielewski.

Sylvie was an inspiration to all who crossed her path. Whether in the classroom, church, or in her personal life, she motivated others to embrace their full potential. Her unwavering empathy and support for marginalized individuals shaped her calling. Just weeks before her passing, Sylvie continued to selflessly serve her community by mentoring youth and assisting families in need. To honor her memory, a celebration of Sylvie’s life will be held on July 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at River City Vineyard in Sarnia, Ontario.
