Thelma HADWEN
Thelma Florence Hadwen, aged 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital in Tillsonburg. Thelma was a beloved mother to Joanne Hammers and her son-in-law Robert. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Donald Lewis Hadwen, her daughter Carol Marie Hadwen, her son Donald James Hadwen, and her brother Donald James Gordon. Thelma was a cherished aunt to Christopher James Gordon.
Thelma, born and raised in King City, embarked on a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse after graduating high school. She trained at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto and earned her nursing license in 1954. That same year, she married Don Hadwen and dedicated herself to raising their children in King City. In 1971, Thelma returned to work as a Registered Nurse and later advanced to the position of Administrator/Director of Nursing at Maple Nursing Home. She actively participated in the King City United Church, enjoying her time singing in the choir. In 1988, Thelma and Don retired to Tillsonburg and Thelma became an active member of St. Paul’s United Church. She continued her love for singing by joining the church choir and the Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers.
To honor Thelma’s memory, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Paul’s United Church Women or Doctors Without Borders. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church in Tillsonburg on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the church.
