Vera SPROULE

Vera G. Sproule, 104, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023, surrounded by her family at Extendicare London. She was born on November 23, 1918, in Devon, England, to William H. Green and Gertrude Green (nee Harris). Vera immigrated to Canada at the age of 4 and settled in Toronto, Ontario. On June 8, 1940, she married the love of her life, Bill (William) Sproule. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, after enjoying 50 years of marriage, as well as her daughter, Joan (Wismer), and son, Ross. She is survived by her son, Gordon (Betty), and son-in-law, Doug Wismer. Vera was a proud Grandma to Jeff (Monica) Wismer, Heather (Scott) Bugler, Kristen (Wayne) Robinson, and Stephen (Andrea) Sproule. She was also a doting Great-Grandmother to Aidan, Mason, Spencer, Jacob, Henry, Samantha, and Kali. Vera relocated to St. Catharines, Ontario, in 1953, where she and Bill became founding members of St. Columba Anglican Church. Throughout her life, she dedicated her time to the St. Catharines General Hospital and the St. Catharines Home and School Associations, as well as being a steadfast member of the St. Catharines Lionesses. Vera had a passion for knitting and would often create sweaters, slippers, hats, and washcloths. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, and frequently hosted dinner parties for her numerous friends. At the age of 97, Vera moved to London, where she forged new friendships and received loving care at Extendicare. The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff who provided unwavering support and love over the span of 7 years. “I Love you more” was Vera’s favorite way to conclude a conversation, and her family lovingly reciprocates with the sentiment, “We Love You More.” Interment will take place at the family plot in St. Catharines.
