Walter Eggleton

Walter James Eggleton, known to friends and family as Wally, passed away on July 23, 2023, during the early hours of the morning. He is survived by his wife Susan, to whom he was married for 56 years, their daughter Amy (Grant) Dunbar, and son Ian (Jay Lancaster). Wally also leaves behind his three beloved grandchildren: Karis, Liam, and Isla Dunbar. His memory is cherished by his brother Stuart (Dorothy) Eggleton and sister Carroll (Don) Pamplin. Wally’s childhood was filled with summers spent at their Cariboo horse ranch, and it was during this time that he developed a deep love for cars and the Car Club. Wally and Susan first met at West Van High, and together they built a beautiful life centered around their close-knit family, numerous dogs, and shared passions for boating, fishing, skiing, and exploring the world through their travels and adventures. Wally’s genuine happiness often found its source aboard one of his boats, as he delighted in the company of family and friends. As a devoted member of the RVYC for over 35 years, Wally formed lasting connections with fellow enthusiasts at Coal Harbour. He passed down his passion for boating and the breathtaking coastal landscapes to his children and their families, fostering a love for the beauty of the sea. Wally was renowned for his generosity and willingness to assist others. Whenever a project needed attention, he would gather his tools and readily lend a helping hand. He embodied the true meaning of friendship, offering unwavering support during both joyous and challenging times. His mischievous sense of humor was always accompanied by a playful twinkle in his eye. In the recent years, Wally and his family faced the difficult battle against Alzheimer’s disease, a struggle that only served to strengthen their bond and fortify their unity. In memory of Wally, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. A private family ceremony will be held to scatter Wally’s ashes at sea, in accordance with his wishes. “Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic.”
