It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter McKinnon on October 22, 2023, at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in St. Thomas, Ontario. Walter, born on May 5, 1935, in West Calder, Scotland, was the son of the late Walter and Agnes McKinnon. After completing his training as an electrician with Scottish Oils, he immigrated to northern Ontario, Canada in 1957. During his career, Walter worked at various locations including Kirkland Lake, Elliot Lake, and Manitouwadge. Eventually, he settled in London, Ontario, where he was employed by Northern Electric and later Labatt Brewing Company until his retirement. Walter is survived by his brother David, sister-in-law Alison, niece Aileen, and her family in Kamloops, BC, as well as nephew Ross, his wife Candace, and their family in West Kelowna, BC. He also leaves behind Jennifer Balch, a dear friend who was like a daughter to him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a significant role in Walter’s life, including Barbara, Connor, Judi, Ursula, the Collins family, and his neighbors Joan, Eileen, and Don. Special thanks also go to the staff at Talbot Manor, as well as community staff members Deb and Ethan. The family is especially grateful to Jennifer Balch, who cared deeply for Walter and went above and beyond to support him. Additionally, the family would like to express their appreciation to Julia and Paul for taking care of Walter’s beloved dog, Sahara.
