Wayne Parlee
Wayne Douglas Parlee, 77, passed away on October 20, 2023, in Guelph, Ontario, after suffering a severe heart attack. Jennifer and the rest of Wayne’s family are deeply saddened to announce his sudden death. Wayne was born in Apohaqui, New Brunswick, and pursued an education in Agricultural Economics, earning his degree from Nova Scotia and McDonald College in Montreal, as well as his Masters of Science from Michigan State University. He dedicated over 30 years to his career with Agriculture Canada, serving in various roles across Eastern Canada. Throughout his life, Wayne and Jennifer cultivated beautiful gardens in each of their residences, sharing their love for farming. Following his retirement, they split their time between homes in Guelph, Ontario, and Rexton, New Brunswick.
Wayne’s premature departure leaves a void, but his legacy of mischievous adventures, dry wit, strong work ethic, and unwavering support for his family lives on. Survived by his wife Jennifer, daughter Kim, grandson Billy, sister Linda Parlee (Joe), nieces Keesha Wttewaall Van Wickenburgh (Conrad), and Heather Wttewaall Van Wickenburgh (Clint), as well as great-nieces and nephews Kate, Sophie, and Jarvis, Wayne was known by several endearing names such as Dad, Pops, and Uncle Wayne.
The family is organizing a special celebration of Wayne’s life in the spring of 2024 at their Guelph residence, where Wayne had diligently transformed the backyard into a beautiful garden that he would undoubtedly love to share with loved ones. Further details regarding the event will be announced at a later date. In memory of Wayne, who was devoted to helping others, a significant portion of the produce from Wayne and Jennifer’s garden was donated to the local food bank in Richibucto, New Brunswick. Those who wish to honor Wayne’s memory are encouraged to make donations to either The Guelph Food Bank in Ontario or Food Depot Alimentaire, which supports food assistance programs in New Brunswick.
