Bill, also known as William Francis Votary, passed away on August 11, 2023, at the age of 94 in his lifelong home of Perth Road Village, Ontario. Born on October 20, 1928, in the same village, Bill was a hardworking and reliable individual who was beloved by his family and friends. He had a strong faith and found solace in his Christian worship at the local church.

Throughout his career, Bill gained recognition as a local bus driver, a position he held for an impressive 50 years while maintaining a flawless driving record. However, his true passion lied in farming. From a young age until his final days, he dedicated his life to tending to the land and producing syrup, fulfilling his love for agriculture.

Bill cherished his personal and family relationships above all else. He was a devoted husband to Louisa Margaret Votary and a treasured brother to Clifford, Irene, Bob, and Donna Votary. As a proud father, he raised Richard Votary, Judy Buckley, and Randy Votary. Furthermore, Bill lovingly embraced his role as a grandfather to Jemmah-Dawn Cotnum, Charity-Mae Catry, Breanna Votary, Mae Pattemore, Brendan Buckley, Kristen Buckley, Jon Buckley, Marty Votary, and Garett Groule. He was also blessed to be a great grandfather to Hudson Kinnard, Ethan Kinnard, Wilson Buckley, River Buckley, Sawyer Buckley, Callie Buckley, Jada Sauve, Ava Sauve, and Vivian Cotnum.

A visitation will take place at 10:00am, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 17th, 2023, at Holiness Church Camp located at 2815 Rutledge Rd #2781, Sydenham, ON K0H 2T0. The family kindly requests that contributions in memory of Bill Votary be made to Sydenham Holiness Church Camp, with donations addressed to the camp in William’s name.

The legacy left by Bill Votary will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering smile, dedicated service to the community, and profound love for his family have left an indelible mark. May he rest in peace. Reflecting on his life on the farm, Bill once said, “Not a moment is wasted on a farm. Other people have been more places than I have, but they haven’t outlived me.”
