William MACKENZIE

Bill Mackenzie, age 83, passed away at his home on November 2, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on April 1, 1940, to Kenneth and Billie (Yetman). He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lynda (Grant), sons Scott (Leanne) and Grant (Sharon), daughter Kara (Ivan), grandchildren Ciera, Samantha, Ainslie, Morgan, and Gavin, and sister Betty (Victoria, B.C.), as well as several nieces and nephews who were dear to him.

After retiring from CN Rail, Bill devoted his time to his cherished children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He enjoyed walking his dog, Scotia, in the neighborhood, and cherished the connections he made with the people he met along the way. The family would like to extend special thanks to Bill’s family physician, Dr. Sean (Eugene) Cahill, for his unwavering commitment and care, as well as Dr. Fairchild and the staff of the Cross Cancer Institute for their kindness and compassion.

A service commemorating Bill’s life will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home in Sherwood Park at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Cross Cancer Institute.

He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on April 1, 1940, to Kenneth and Billie (Yetman). Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lynda (Grant), as well as his children Scott (Leanne), Grant (Sharon), and Kara (Ivan), along with his grandchildren Ciera, Samantha, Ainslie, Morgan, and Gavin, and his sister Betty (Victoria, B.C.). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Following his retirement from CN Rail, Bill cherished the time he spent with his beloved family and friends. He found joy in walking his dog, Scotia, in the neighborhood and appreciated the many kind people he met along the way. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Bill’s family physician, Dr. Sean (Eugene) Cahill, for his unwavering care and commitment, as well as Dr. Fairchild and the staff of the Cross Cancer Institute for their compassion and support.

A service in memory of Bill’s life will take place at Glenwood Funeral Home in Sherwood Park at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.
