William PUTNAM

William “Bill” Putnam, formerly of R. R. #4 Aylmer, passed away peacefully at Valleyview Home on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean Putnam, who passed away in 2012. Bill was a loving father to his children Mary Lynne Magyar (Joe), Cheryl Wilson (Mark), Robert Putnam, and Valerie McNeil (Larry). He will be greatly missed by his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Bill’s son Raymond Putnam (2021) and brother Bob Putnam (Audrey) predeceased him.

Born on February 5, 1933, in South Dorchester Township, Ontario, Bill was the son of Lee and Nellie Putnam. He worked as a skilled mechanic throughout his life, having owned Dunn Motors and later Putnam’s Auto Centre on John Street North. One of his passions was traveling in his motorhome, and he had a particular fondness for his 1964 Dodge Polara. As a member of the Kettle Valley Pioneers, Bill enjoyed engaging with fellow enthusiasts.

Visitation for Bill will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A private family service will follow. In honoring Bill’s memory, donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation or St. Paul’s United Church would be greatly appreciated. Besides his passion for fixing cars, Bill found joy in traveling with his motorhome. Among his cherished possessions was his 1964 Dodge Polara. Additionally, Bill was an active member of the Kettle Valley Pioneers.

Friends and family can pay their respects to Bill during the visitation at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer on Friday, October 6, 2023. The visitation hours will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held privately for the family. Cremation-burial will take place at Aylmer Cemetery.
