TEW, Winnifred (Wyn)

Peacefully at University Hospital on Monday, April 15, 2024, Winnifred Frances Tew, nee Carter of London in her 95th year.

Wyn was the beloved wife of the late Donald Edward Tew (1982) and Leland Archibald Dowswell (2014). Loving mother of David (Robyn) Tew and Katherine (Costa) Darras. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Jenny (Sam), Brent, Julie (Andrew), Jeff (Sarah), Nicholas, Sophia and Izzy; great-grandchildren Jessica, Wesley, Violet, Tye, Joshua, Hailey, Nathan, Brandon, Tristan, Gabriel and Malcolm; great-great-grandchildren Kai and Luna. Loving grandma of fur babies Gracie, Lily, Beau, and Lexi. Sister of the late Edna Miner and also fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Wyn graduated from Chatham General nursing program in 1950 and in 1976 completed a Bachelor of Arts at Western University. She worked first as an RN at Chatham General and then at various hospitals in the southern Ontario area, before moving to the Victorian Order of Nurses. She eventually transitioned to social work and for many years worked on the front lines of child protection at Children’s Aid Society of London & Middlesex.

Wyn was passionate about her friends and her hobbies, including travel, square dancing (with Don), bridge with the group at St Michael’s Church and Siloam United, the Canadian Federation of University Women (UWO) and her exercise groups. She valued the role that Al-Anon had played in her life and treasured many friends from the program.

Many thanks to the nursing and palliative care staff at University Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Siloam United Church, 1240 Fanshawe Park Rd. E., on Friday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. Private interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
